IC1396 – Elephant’s Trunk Nebula, 2021-12-21.
My first attempt at a slightly larger project that spans several sessions. I captured the Elephant’s Trunk Nebula earlier, but was not satisfied with the data I captured with my camera. I then chose to test capturing data with a Baader UHC-S L-Booster filter which is a high contrast filter that blocks artificial light and UV light while letting through a very limited spectrum of other light. The filter is designed to let H-Beta at a wavelength of 486nm, O-III at a wavelength of 501nm and H-alpha at a wavelength of 656nm. To counteract the fact that my system camera blocks quite a bit of the light I want to capture, I increased the total exposure time by collecting data over several sessions.
139x240s, ISO1600, bortle 4 with a total integration time of 9 hours and 20 minutes.
